so i have been getting a few emails from people asking me about culinary school and whether or not they think they should go. i have been trying to avoid doing a post about this because its a subject that pisses me off more than anything and if i had the chance to meet these fucking trashbags that are responsible for giving people shady ass loans i would probably be in jail for something stupid. anyways that aside i would like to give a post on why you should NOT go to culinary school, EVER. i went and i regret it everyday, seriously everyday. it was the biggest waste of money i have ever spent. EVER. these schools will lie about how much your payments are, one minute telling you they are going to be 180-200$ per month so you think ok well that seems manageable right? fucking wrong!!! when you get out and are working for free trying to get into the best places and once you get paid you make 8-9$ per hour you quickly realize that your NEW payment of 600-700$ per month is actually what the fucking loan costs.
this shit happened to me, these mother fuckers tell me i am paying 180-200$ and i figured ehh 200$ thats not bad then i get a fucking statement for 648.00 monthly for the same fucking loan they sold me on. and thats all these pieces of shit are, salesman, nothing more. so anyways back to the actual schooling. when in school if you have any prioir experience in a kitchen or even if you are working in a real kitchen while going to school you realize that they are not teaching you anything relevant to what actually goes on in a kitchen, they have you in this fucking la la land of what they tell you a kitchen is supposed to be, i was working for free in a kitchen before i went to school and i thought i needed to go to school then i get there and when i talked to these (sales)people they make it sound like without the fucking degree its hard to make it, but its actually the opposite (being young and unaware of these money traps is becoming increasingly difficult these days, i am still quite young but learned a huge lesson from going to culinary school which is DON"T GO) by having a degree you are automatically a fucking tool the minute you walk into a kitchen, why? because you have these little assholes that think because they went to school they are above doing dishes and bullshit work and so it gives anyone who comes out a bad rap which i understand because i have worked with you fuckers who are lazy as fuck and cut corners while putting your work onto other people (which i gladly accepted to try and learn the things you missed out on). after all the free work and low paying jobs i finally had to get a job that i could make some money to pay off my loans because i had a forbearance on my loans for a long time until i could no longer push them off. right now i work as a private chef and sometimes i really miss being in a restaurant kitchen, but at the same time i am pretty fortunate to be able to actually pay my loans on time finally. what really pisses me off is how many people i know that this is the same story, go to school get fucked when you get out, "see ya, fuck off, and thanks for the fucking money" thats the reality of culinary school... if you really feel like you need to go to a school to cook what i would suggest is to go to your local community college and sign up for a class, if you live in state the tuition is really cheap, probably about 11-14$ per unit so about 50-60$ for a semester!!! i pad fucking 181.00$ per day for school and i am sure its beyond higher now!!! then go stage at places (work for free) you like the style of, build u your resume and take 10,000$ and go travel and work in good kitchens. the things i could have done with 36,000$ that will end up being over 50,000$ by the time i pay it off because of interest. dont get suckered into this bullshit like so many people have!!!! oh yeah and you may ask why didnt i quit going to school instead of sticking it out, well once you do 51% of the school if you drop out you are still responsible for the whole tuition so i figured well fuck i may as well stay and get the damn degree because i am already having to pay the whole tuition, if i could have taken the loss at 18,000$ i would have just walked away and paid the damn loan without the dumb ass diploma and not been paying the equivalent to what a 2009 mercedes would cost every month. hopefully this finds someone who is in search of an answer amongst the bullshit that is out there. don't fall for it, and if you have a chance, punch em' in the nuts and run...
